Terra & Brass

Retro soul, refined luxury. A 70 m² apartment in Milan.

Living room with a rust velvet sectional, round dark stone table, ivory armchair and a large garden window

The brief

Design a first home for a young couple in Milan, inside 70 square meters, so that it feels spacious, works every day and still has warmth and character.

The answer is a sequence of rooms tied together by the same few materials. Living, dining and kitchen read as one Milanese salon. Full-height walnut joinery hides the appliances and wardrobes, so the plan stays calm. Light, texture and ceiling lines mark the zones instead of walls.

Floor plan

Palette

Warm ivory, travertine and walnut keep the rooms light. Terracotta, cognac and caramel bring the 1970s warmth through upholstery, rugs and ceramics. Oxblood, olive and aged brass are kept for focal pieces, lighting and hardware.

Rooms

Kitchen with a travertine island, olive bar stools, walnut cabinetry and integrated wine storage
Kitchen. A travertine island anchors the room and lines up with the dining table, so the kitchen reads as part of the architecture.
Dining area with a round dark stone table, olive chairs and amber glass pendant
Dining. Olive upholstery and amber glass light.
Bedroom with an upholstered headboard, taupe linen, walnut furniture and a cove-lit ceiling
Bedroom. Calmer and more enclosed, with fluted walnut panels hiding full-height wardrobes.
Two bathrooms: microcement walls, dark stone vanity, brass fittings and an olive tiled shower
Bathrooms. Warm microcement, dark stone and brass. The guest bath gets an oxblood niche and olive gloss tile.

Light

By day the apartment is bright and efficient: pale walls and stone carry daylight deep into the plan. In the evening it turns intimate. Cove lighting, LED strips in the joinery, amber glass pendants and brass lamps take over, and the stone veining becomes part of the decoration.
